Ser Hugh of the Vale was a squire to Lord Jon Arryn, and knighted by King Robert Baratheon (in memory of his friend and mentor) following Jon Arryn's death. Although considered a suspect of Jon Arryn's poisoning by Lord Eddard Stark, Ser Hugh could not be questioned due to receiving fatal injuries, from Lannister bannerman Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, during the jousting competition of the King's tournament.
