Discovering Logan in the Canadian woods, Hugo’s animal handler Clara calmed Logan down. Taken Logan captive, Hugo displayed him in his circus. Mr. Sinister, in his guise as Nathaniel Essex, tried buying Logan from Hugo, but to no avail. His chance to study Logan came when local newspapers began describing Logan as fake. Offering Hugo the gain proof that Logan’s extraordinary powers are real, Essex invited Hugo to take Logan to his lab and study him. After strapping Logan to his examination table, Essex gassed the room, himself being safe from the gas after quickly donning a gas mask. The gas killed Hugo Haversham.
