Humphrey Bear

Humphrey Bear is a Disney character created in 1950. He first appeared with Goofy in the cartoon short “Hold That Pose” and then co-starred in several Donald Duck shorts. He was granted his own film short series, the seventh and last Disney character to do so. The previous ones were Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip’n’Dale and Figaro. In all Humphrey appeared in eleven shorts between 1950 and 1956. He has since been seen in cameos in various television series like Rescue Rangers and Goof Troop.

The setting of his series is simple. Humphrey is a bear living in Brownstone National Park. He is an opportunist who tries to mooch food from the various tourists or seek shelter in their cabins. He gets in trouble with J. Audubon Woodlore, the park ranger. The setting was copied closely in the later Yogi Bear series by Hanna-Barbera.
