Origin
Born and raised in Cairhien, Ilain eventually took her banking business to Tar Valon, where she was looked upon favourably by many for her dedication to discretion and the privacy and security of her patrons. Her bank was very successful. Â
Creation
Ilain was created by Robert Jordan for his book series The Wheel of Time, making her first appearance in the prequel, New Spring. She made her first appearance in comics in Wheel of Time: New Spring #5, written by Jordan and Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Mike Miller  Â

New Spring
A man pretending to be a member of the Tower Guard approaches Ilain with what he claims is a document signed by the Amyrlin Seat Tamra Ospenya ordering Ilain to reveal the details of Moiraine Damodred’s accounts to him. Ilain sees through the ruse and has the man imprisoned, though he manages to escape after bribing one of her employees. Her reaction to this betrayal is suitably harsh. When Moiraine next comes to the bank, Ilain tells her of the affair and assures her that her assets are safe in the bank. Â
