Origin

Isabel St. Ives, witnessed her father, a gangster named Deadly Ernest, accidentally killing her mother. She swore to avenge her mother, and used science and magic to create the sword. She was later inspired by the superhero group known as Alpha Flight to become a superhero as well. She made herself a startling costume and named herself Nemesis, hoping to take on her father.

Creation

Isabel St. Ives was created by John Byrne and first appeared in Alpha Flight Vol.1 issue 8 (1984). She was the first person to wear the Nemesis costume.

Major Story Arcs

First Contact

Nemesis finally found herself ready to take on her father as her alter-ego Nemesis. During her assould on Deadly Ernest’s house, she by chance assisted Alpha Flight members Aurora and Northstar in their battle with Deadly Ernest and cut her father to pieces, disappearing afterward. It was unknown who the mystrious woman was to both Alpha Flight members and she was not seen again for a long time.

It seemed that Nemesis was never to be seen again. This all changed when her father, Deadly Ernest was revived by Scramble and managed to kill most of the Alpha Flight team. It was then that Nemesis returned, and kept the team alive through the life forces of Ernest’s previous victims, long enough for Puck to kill Deadly Ernest again. Nemesis explained her origin to the team-members, but disappeared seemingly for good after that.

Powers and Abilities

Nemesis is an unpowered humans whose abilities were granted by the magic sword.

Equipment and Weapons

Nemesis carries The Onyx Sword. The blade is less than an atom thick in width and is capable of cutting between molecules. The Onyx Sword can cut through almost anything and is indestructible. It also grants the wielder certain powers such as the ability to fly, teleport and absorb life force through the blade.
