Jack-O-Lantern

This article is about the third person to use the identity of Jack O’Lantern. For the first, see Daniel Cormac. For the second, see Marvin Noronsa.

Origin

Following the death of his cousin Daniel, the original Jack, Liam McHugh inherited the magical lantern that gave Daniel his powers. Taking up the identity of Jack O’Lantern to keep his cousin’s memory alive, Liam became Ireland’s new superhero.

Creation

Jack O’Lantern was created by Steven T Seagle and Frank Squillace. He made his first appearance in Justice League Quarterly #14.

Major Story Arcs

Primal Force

Jack is called to join the Leymen, a group dedicated to protecting the Earth. During his time with the group he struggles with his own limited knowledge and skill in superheroics. Nonetheless, he joins the team on several successful missions tracking and defeating manifestations of Cataclysm. Following the massive battle in New York against Cataclysm, Lord Satanus, and Tornado Tyrant, he returns home to Ireland, where he is left in charge of calling the Leymen together in the event of the next threat.

Classified

Joining forces with the International Ultramarine Corps, Jack infiltrates an apparent hostage situation, where he encounters Qwewq, the infant universe. He manages to escape the immediate situation with his team, but is soon captured, taken over by a Sheeda spine-rider, and forced to fight for Gorilla Grodd and Neh-Buh-Loh. He is freed when Neh-Buh-Loh retreats, and he agrees to accompany his team into Qwewq to act as superheroes in a world without them. His actions and fate are unknown, but the team successfully implants a flaw in Neh-Buh-Loh.
