When Janet reached six years of age, she began displaying powers similar to her father, the reformed criminal called Equinox. Her powers would be expressed as high-level heat explosions. Since Janet was not yet able to control her powers, Terry began to beat the girl and demand that she get control over them. Terry reacted this way due to his own abusive childhood at the hands of his own father.
As a social worker, Sam Wilson had Janet’s case file cross his desk. After remembering Terry Sorenson’s name, Sam, as the Falcon, visited the Sorenson residence and arrived as Terry began to beat Janet again. The two men got into a fight until Janet escaped out a window and released an explosive blast.
Falcon told Mr. Sorenson that he understood where he was coming from as the Avengers had a file on the man. Three weeks laters, Sam assisted Terry in court allowing Terry to continue to have custody of his daughter. Before leaving the man, Sam gave Terry contact information for people who can help Janet learn how to control her powers. Sam also gave Terry his own phone number, telling him as a social worker he can hook him up with people who can help Terry with his own issues.
