Origin
Jasper McGrab was nicknamed Jasper the Grasper by the other residents of Cortown because of his miserly, money-grabbing ways. He lived in 13 Stingy Street, a house he had festooned with ear trumpets to help him hear the sound of money being dropped from miles away, and, capable of identifying both the type of coin and roughly where it had been dropped just from the sound, Jasper would shoot forth from his home at supersonic speed to lay claim to it. Forever looking for ways to avoid spending money while simultaneously increasing his horde, Jasper undertook scheme after scheme, frequently illegal, almost always underhanded, in his pursuit of wealth, but karma tended to intervene, with Jasper losing out due to his own nastiness.
Creation
Jasper the Grasper was created by Ken Reid, and initially appeared in Wham! from issue 42 through 47. Though his run there was short, the character was revived for Cor!!, initially in a reprint of the Reid stories in Cor!! Annual 1972 (released late 1971) to introduce Cor!! readers to the character, and then by Trevor Metcalfe for all new stories from Cor!! issue 83, dated January 1st 1972. He continued to appear in Cor!! until that title’s penultimate issue.
