Jean Ovington

Brief History

Jean Ovington was from an affluent family. She was romantically involved with Clifton Graves but left him for his friend, Frank Drake. The couple eventually became engaged to be married despite Drake having squandered the fortune left to him by his father. Drake undertook an expedition with Graves to Transylvania to rebuild his wealth through his ancestral home, Castle Dracula and Jean accompanied them. Graves had designs on killing Drake during the trip and trying to win back his former lover. While exploring the castle, Graves discovered the tomb of Count Dracula and accidentally revived the vampire by removing the stake from his chest. Dracula incapacitated Graves and stalked off to find the other intruders of his home. Finding Jean and Frank Drake, the vampire lord summoned her to him with his hypnotic powers. Drake saved her by knocking her unconscious. Count Dracula left the scene to find another source of sustenance but returned shortly to find a slumbering Jean. This time, she was saved by a cross worn around her neck and the intervention of Drake, who was easily overcome by Dracula. Jean was then compelled to remove the cross. Count Dracula then killed her and transformed her into a vampire. Citizens of the nearby Transylvanian village set part of the castle on fire and Drake, not realizing what had happened to Jean, removed her from the castle. Immediately after the villagers left, she awoke, revealing to Drake her new status as a vampire and left the scene.

Later, Dracula and Jean followed Drake and Graves to London in pursuit of Dracula’s coffin, which Drake had stolen. Jean appeared in Drake’s hotel room and attempted to convince him that she was still human to get him to lower his guard. However, Drake overcame her with a crucifix and with Graves help, restrained her. Soon, though, she compelled a drunken Graves to free her. She tried to bite Graves but was staked by Drake and met the final death when sunlight poured through the hotel room window.

Jean Ovington was apparently not resurrected with the other vampires of the Earth when the alien sorcerer Urthona (apparently) destroyed The Darkhold.
