Jeffrey Flynn

HISTORY

Jeffrey Flynn is an American reporter who wrote a book exposing Nazi atrocities. The Germans capture Flynn and hold him prisoner on Devil’s Island. Gestapo officer Von Shrag is tasked with coercing the journalist into signing a retraction.

FBI agent Linda Reed informs Captain Flag of the situation after a message in a bottle reveals Flynn is being held on Devil’s Island. The Captain flies there in his plane, The American Eagle. His bald eagle, Yank, perches on a bar the outside of the plane.

Captain Flag lands the plane in the water, where it floats in its pontoons. He dives into the water to swim to shore but is attacked by a shark. He uses his knife to disable the shark, then swims away as the other sharks attack it. A native islander named Rene and his friend see Flag swimming to shore and, hoping for a reward, inform the Nazis.

A Nazi officer arrives to pressure Von Shrag to get Flynn to sign. They torture Flynn further, but to no avail. Disguised as a prisoner of the island, Captain Flag hears Flynn’s screams and discards the disguise. He rescues Flynn while Yank helps fend off the Nazi guards.

The Nazis set bloodhounds on the pair, which drives them into a pit covered as a booby trap. Flag agrees to try to get Flynn to sign the paper if the Nazi official throws down the pen and paper. Captain Flag then uses a piece of bamboo to fashion a makeshift blowgun and kills the Nazi official.

Von Shrag prepares to shoot them, but Yank defends Flynn and Captain Flag. The pair escape and find a dugout canoe from a native village and escape the island. Captain Flag gives his cape to Yank to use as a signal. A passing American ship sees the eagle and the flag, rescuing Captain Flag and Flynn.
