HISTORY
The Witch is described as a “hideous old hag”. With her feline companion, Lucifer, she resides in a secluded cabin near a desolate road.
When a married couple named John and Mary are left stranded by their car in a rainstorm, they seek shelter in the witch’s cabin. The witch welcomes them in and reads their fortunes in the bubbles floating out of her Witch’s Cauldron.
The Witch sees that Mary’s father disapproved of their marriage, yet they married despite his wishes. Mary looks out the window of their hotel room to see men she is certain her father sent to kill John. The pair see only one way out, so they attempt to gas themselves.
When the father arrives into the room, he finds both Mary and John unconscious. A doctor examines them, pronouncing Mary as dead, but stating John could be revived.
John is revived, yet falls into a terrible state of drunken ennui. Mary shows up and says she survived. The pair are happy to be together again. The witch finishes relaying the story to the couple and they leave again in their vehicle.
While driving on a road, Mary kisses John. This action distracts him, and he drives the vehicle through a danger sign and over a cliff. The witch sees the ghosts of the couple in a bubble from her cauldron. She explains to Lucifer that Mary was a ghost. Mary came back to retrieve John. so they could be together in the afterlife.
