Joseph Allen Grady intended to be a cop but he was not accepted into the force because of “moral ambiguities.” His two brothers, Francis and Michael were. They smuggle out guns from evidence room and give them to Joseph to be sold on the black market.
Joseph sold guns to the Costa Family, and under Bruno Costa‘s command, these guns killed Maria Castle, Lisa Castle and Frank Castle Jr.
Later Jigsaw finds Joseph and kills him for being one responsible in the chain of events that led to the birth of the Punisher, and hence to the birth of Jigsaw.
