Julia Maesa

Julia Maesa (170 - 224), of Syrian origin, was Roman Empress from 218 to 224. Sister-in-law of Septimius Severus and aunt of Caracalla, she was sent back to Syria after the latter's assassination in 217. She takes back power for the benefit of her young grandsons, Heliogabalus and Severus Alexander and governs in their place.
