June followed in the footsteps of Sandra of the Secret Service (1935 – 1938), a long-running series in “More Fun Comics” which ended a few months after June’s debute. There was also Hope Hazard, G-Woman, protagonist of a one-shot tale in “Detective Comics” earlier in 1937. The concept of both was being the only female agent of the same agency.
