Kagome

Kagome’s story begins in modern day Tokyo, Japan. On Kagome’s 15th birthday, she is on her way to school when she notices her cat, Buyo, has run off toward her family’s Shinto shrine. She goes looking for Buyo as she approaches a well behind her family’s house. Suddenly, a centipede demon emerges from the well and drags Kagome into the well with her. Kagome awakens in the well and climbs out only to find that she is no longer in her family’s backyard, but in the Feudal Era of Japan. As she begins to walk around, she sees someone( InuYasha) attached to a tree in the forest. As she approaches, villagers seize her and take her to the village priestess, Kaede. Kaede looks at Kagome and realizes that she is a reincarnation of the previous village priestess(who was Kaede’s older sister), Kikyo. Kaede then tells Kagome Kikyo and InuYasha’s story of how InuYasha(really Naraku disguised as InuYasha) tries to steal a very powerful item called the Jewel of Four Souls and Kikyo stops him by sealing him to a tree in the forest with her sacred arrow. Kikyo is mortally wounded and when she dies, the Jewel of Four Souls is burned with her body so that it would not fall into the wrong hands again. After Kaede tells Kagome the story, the centipede demon finds her and attacks her. Kagome runs away from the demon but is soon trapped between the demon and InuYasha’s tree. InuYasha awakens because he thinks he smells Kikyo coming. When InuYasha sees that Kagome cannot defend herself, he tells her that if she will release him, he will destroy the demon. Kagome agrees and InuYasha destroys the demon. InuYasha then tries to steal the Jewel of Four Souls(which was found in Kagome’s body after the centipede demon bit her) from Kagome, but fails because Kaede puts prayer beads around his neck that allow Kagome to momentarily paralyze him if she says “Sit!”. Soon, the Jewel is stolen by a crow demon and InuYasha and Kagome go after it. Kagome shoots it with a sacred arrow, but accidently shatters the Jewel and it scatters across the land. It is then decided that Kagome and InuYasha will travel together in search of the Jewel fragments(even though InuYasha extremely dislikes Kagome).

Kagome and InuYasha meet new friends along the way that join with them on their journey to find the Jewel pieces such as; Shippo, a young fox demon who looks up to Kagome as an older sister figure; Sango, a girl demon-hunter who is one of Kagome’s best friends in the group; Miroku, a cursed monk who is another of Kagome’s friends who respects her and her power; and Kikyo, Kagome’s previous incarnation who is brought back to life with a piece of Kagome’s soul.

Love interests:

InuYasha: InuYasha is truly Kagome’s only love interest. Even though the two disliked each other greatly at the beginning of their journey, they have grown to like and even love each other. Their relationship was strained when Kikyo, InuYasha’s first love interest, was brought back to life and InuYasha began to grow closer to Kikyo again. But Kagome, being the kind-hearted person she is, allows InuYasha to continue his relationship with Kikyo because she wants him to be happy. But after Kikyo’s death, InuYasha begins to grow closer to Kagome again. In the movie, InuYasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass, Kagome does declare that she loves InuYasha and the two do eventually kiss.

Powers/Weapons:

Purification Powers: this power allows Kagome to purify anything she touches. By gathering large amounts of concentrated energy in her right palm, she can direct it at an opponent.

Spiritual Powers: Kagome can pass through barriers, spells, and illusions. Kagome can also sense evil auras and be unaffected by them. It is also revealed that her powers ,to a great extent, are sealed by the Shikon no Tama(the Jewel of Four Souls), so she may have many other powers than these.

Jewel Detecting: this allows Kagome to sense the exact location of the Jewel shards. Kikyo had this ability as well.

Time Travel: Kagome can travel between the present and the Feudal Era by using the magic well behind her family’s house.

Kyudo(meaning “way of the bow”): Kagome uses a basic bow as a weapon. If she infuses her power into the bow, she can reflect an enemy’s attack. Her bow has the power to strike evil spirits or the user’s intended target bypassing others, if the opponent should happen to be using a hostage as a shield, the arrow will bypass the hostage and hit the enemy instead.

Sacred Arrow: Kagome can fuse her power into her arrows. This allows the arrows to penetrate demonic forces and purify objects.

Sacred Backlash Wave: This attack is a combination of InuYasha’s Backlash Wave and Kagome’s Sacred Arrow. It consists of Kagome firing one of her Sacred Arrows into the center of InuYasha’s Backlash Wave, creating a very powerful attack.
