Mait’ Carrefour first presents himself to Voodoo when she returns to New Orleans. He impersonates a gang member and doorman at a strop club called The Midnight Lounge. He gets Voodoo a dancing job working under Christian Charles, the owner of the establishment. It is later revealed that he is actually one of the Petros Loa associated with doorways between the human world and the afterlife. He and Charles have conspired to use dark magic to bring Charles’s wicked father Jean-Pierre LaCroix. In a final battle Erzulie Freda, one of the Rada Loa possesses Voodoo’s body and uses it to lure LaCroix back to the dead. In this act Carrefour who was mystically bonding father and son was also defeated and sent away.
