Origin
Kanae Katagiri is a Gemischt Quincy, mixed breed, who was brought to be a servant of the pure-blooded Ishida Family, and more specifically the guard of their only son, Ryuken Ishida, Over the years as his servant, she feel in love with Ryuken, but never acted upon her feelings.
Creation
Kanae Katagiri (?? ??, Katagiri Kanae) is a supporting character of the BLEACH series that was created by Tite Kubo, It first began serialization Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2001. She was first introduced during the flashback portion of the The Thousand-Year Blood War Arc that began in Volume 59.
She first appeared in BLEACH Volume 59 CH. 530 “Everything But the Rain op.3 ‘Dark of the Moon'”.
Major Story Arcs
The Thousand-Year Blood War Arc
Masaki Kurosaki had been brought to the Ishida household after her parents had died. As a pure-blood Quincy, she was there to one day marry Ryuken. Katagiri tried to play supportive since it meant the continuation of the Ishida line. Katagiri joined Ryuken to follow Misaki when he ran off to fight a Hollow and save a Soul Reaper on her own. Misaki had won the fight by the time they arrived, but she had been bitten. Katagiri defied Ryuken’s orders to keep the incident a secret and reported it to his mother. When Ryuken confronted her about it, she said it was for the future of the Quincy, what he said he wanted. Ryuken took the infected Masaki and ran from the house.
Katagiri followed later and found Ryuken. He had left Masaki with the Soul Reaper, Isshin Shiba, to save. When Ryuken sounded as if he would leave the Ishida Family, she begged him not to be sad or think of himself as weak. Seeing him sad breaks her heart. She swore she would always be by his side. Over the following years, Ryuken and Katagiri were married and they had one son. Uryu Ishida. Nine years later, on June 17, Katagiri lost consciousness and passed away, since Yhwach used Auswahlen to steal the power of every Gemischt Quincy for himself.
Powers & Abilities
Spiritual Awareness
As with most Quincy, Katagiri has a unique set of abilities that she can use in a fight. Along with an enhanced spiritual awareness comes the ability to manipulate Reishi (spirit particles) energy into weapons, such as arrows of light.
Spirit Weapons
Quincy have the ability to manipulate Reishi into weapons made of spiritual energy. This is nearly always formed into bows and arrows.
Blut
Blut (?? (????), Bur?to) is a special defensive technique of the Quincy. This power is in the very blood of all Quincy, and using it gives them super human defense and offensive powers. It’s performed by directing the flow of Reishi directly into the blood vessels. This risk is that once used it prevents a Quincy from using their light arrows. As a mixed-breed, Katagiri obtained this power through training.
