Kate is the owner of the Heartbreak Hotel, located near an unidentified beach in California. The Heartbreak Hotel is a refuge for homeless mutants, former tenants including Dazzler, the Beast, Poltergeist, Link and a young girl called Lucy.
She had a second profession as a florist on Hollywood Boulevard where she first met Allison Blaire, who was hiding after being publicly revealed to be a mutant.
Powers
While it is clear that Kate once had powers, she admitted to Dazzler that she missed having them, suggesting that somehow, they had been lost.
