Kathy Ffoulkes along with her father Hubert set up a peaceful protest to have a Stark factory on the island of Lakani shut down. They feared that the factory would end up polluting the entire island. A lot of their fears however were false information that was spread through the Smashers. The Smashers being a group of paid thugs working for a man Iron Man dubbed Mastermind. The group was eventually defeated by Iron Man and it was discovered that Mastermind was actually a Mr. Bowers a Stark employee who was embezzling from the company and hoped to get the factory shut down in order to hide his crimes.
