Creation
Kid Kong was a giant ape created by Robert Nixon. He appeared in Monster Fun, initially as the cover star, and later transferred to Buster when the two titles merged.
Origin
A giant ape around four times the size of a man, Kid Kong was a circus attraction, allegedly the son of the famous King Kong, but he intensely disliked his life; the public saw him merely as a hideous monster, while the circus owner mistreated him, feeding the massive Kong a measly single banana a day. So, one night, as the circus transferred between venues, the naively innocent Kid Kong broke out, and went looking for more bananas (or ‘nanas, as he called them). Breaking into an apartment store, he took a liking to some oversized school uniforms therein and squeezed himself into a blazer and cap, then wandered the town, convinced he now looked just like a regular kid. When he took a break to beat his chest in joy, the resulting booming pounding drew the attention of nearby home owner Granny Smith, an intensely near-sighted, half-deaf old lady who had been very lonely since her son left home to go to sea. Mistaking the pounding noise for a gentle knocking at the door, and the enormous gorilla for a wandering school boy shaking with cold, she invited him in and, after he somehow squeezed through her front door, offered him some food. The police and circus owner soon arrived at Granny’s house, storming in announcing their intention to recapture the ape, but an angry Granny drove them off, thinking they were simply being rude about her visitor and believing he had run away from a cruel home. Kong took an understandable shine to Granny, who in turn vowed to bring him up properly.
