King Herod

Born c. 73-74 BC and reigned in Judea from c. 37-4 BC

Herod is probably most infamous for issuing the decree to massacre all of the male children in Bethlehem under the age of two in an event forever called “The Massacre of the Innocents”. He made this political calculation based upon information concerning the recent birth of a King of Israel related to him by travelling “magi” searching for this new king.

Herod also murdered his wife and three sons.
