Sociable and easygoing, Kazama was one of the first friends Haruto Kirishima made when he moved to Tokyo, along with Asuka Mishima. Though he was taken aback to learn Haruto had come to Tokyo to find out why his girlfriend, Yuzuki, had broken off contact with him, Kazama did his best to be supportive. The situation became more complicated however, when Haruto discovered that Kazama was Yuzuki’s new boyfriend, and that she had left him to support Kazama through a life-threatening illness.
After some thought and advice from Asuka, Haruto decided he and Kazama could only be real friends if they were open with each other, and revealed that Yuzuki was his ex, and that he wanted to restore their relationship. Kazama took this with good grace, and a rivalry for Yuzuki’s affections began.
Not wanting to feel that Yuzuki only stayed with him because of his illness, Kazama eventually decides to undergo a potential risky surgery.
