Lady Penelope was created by Sylvia Anderson, then wife of Gerry Anderson, for the couple’s puppet show Thunderbirds. Sylvia also provided the character’s voice. She debuted in her own strip in TV Century 21 while the TV show was still in production, thus making her first appearance in comic strip format, prior to her TV debut in the first episode of Thunderbirds, “Trapped in the Sky.” The success of the strip in TV Century 21 prompted the launch of Lady Penelope in her own spin-off comic and annual.
