In the Martial World where Lei Kung grew up every man is required to join the evil Emperor’s army. Lei Kung’s older brother refused to fight for such an evil tyrant and ran off to the mountains to avoid the draft. Lei Kung was not quite the rebel that his brother was, at least at that point, so he became a soldier.
When the Emperor sent his armies out in search of his lost armor, Lei Kung became so appalled by the cruelties being performed by his general that he abandoned his post and headed for the mountains, hoping to find his lost brother.
Instead, Lei Kung found Chung Li Ch’uan, the chief of the Eight Immortals, who was meditating in the snow, waiting to find a student to teach. After an initial misunderstanding involving zombies and the burning of Chung Li Ch’uan’s body, Lei Kung agreed to become Chun Li Ch’uan’s student. Lei Kung had to read many books and train vigorously every day, and Chun Li Ch’uan explained to him why the dead were walking again and sent him in search of the other Immortals.
Along the way, Lei Kung learns more about the Immortals, their other students, and why he must stop the Emperor from assembling his lost armor.
Lei Kung also continues his kung fu studies with the other Immortals, Moog Joogular, a variety of deadly beasts, the Shaolin Monks, and even the evil Emperor himself. Lei Kung learns as many styles as he can, so that he can combine them together in an infinite amount of ways. According to Chung Li Ch’uan, this will enable him to defeat any opponent.
After many battles and challenges, Lei Kung eventually defeats the evil Emperor and eventually becomes a kung fu instructor himself.
