There wasn’t must to distinguish the comic strip Little Mary Mixup by R.M. (Robert Moore) Brinkerhoff other than it being, when it was introduced in 1917, the first one to have as it’s lead character a young girl, Little Mary Mixup was a bright and happy 8 year old who starred in what was at first a one panel gag-strip.
Eventually this would change to a four panel soap opera / adventure strip and Mary would become a teenager.
Little Mary’s newspaper strips appeared in a few of the early comics, but left that venue before the end of the 40’s the newspaper strip would run until 1956. Â Â
