Master Key was really wealthy playboy Ray Cardell, who after being exposed to “ultra-shortwaves” found he had X-Ray vision, the ability to see in the dark and could beam a powerful light out of his eyes.
Deciding to us this ability to “shine the light of justice on crime,” he became known as Master Key.
However unlike many Mystery Men his life as a playboy was not just a guise but an important part of his life, as he was known for always being stylishly dressed and almost always charged into battle wearing evening dress.
His wealth also made it possible for him to travel the world seeking out evil around the globe, from European dictators, to kidnapped heiresses, to monsters on the prowl.
