Mater Morbi first appears in Dylan Dog #280, an autobiograpical story by writer Roberto Recchioni and artist Massimo Carnevale. It is a very controversal issue, mainly because it focuses on very “real” horrors, and treats difficult themes such as pain, illness and euthanasia. The character itself is very “disturbing”, becuse it embodies illness itself, and as she states, “people are afraid of me much more than Death”.
