When God left Heaven, the Adelphi were put in charge. Nominally, anyway. Their main job was to oversee the bastard child of an angel and a demon – Genesis.
They were able to hold it for a while, but Genesis was, without a human host, immensely powerful and eventually escaped. Mathias was part of the group of Adelphi assigned to track down and find Genesis. He was the one who discovered that Jesse Custer had met the Saint Of Killers and knew exactly what a bad thing that was….
