An intelligent shape-shifting warrior Dragon Dog Hydromel is the companion / protector of Zarla the daughter of to famous dragon slayers who have gone missing, and who Zarla has gone in search of. 

To Zarla Hydromel takes the form of her riding mount and pet bulldog Mead, however when she is in danger he takes his true form and defends her with letting her know he is doing the heaving lifting in the monster killing business.

He wears an amulet that connects the two and allows him to always know where she is.
