Origin
Ex-Parachute Regiment Major and former racing car driver, Mike Gambit was a British secret agent and member of the Avengers, working with John Steed and Purdey. He was an exceptional shot and top martial artist.
Creation
Gambit was created by writer Brian Clemens for the New Avengers TV series as Clemens felt that a younger male lead would need to be included for the series action sequences since the returning original star, Patrick McNee, was now too old to do as many stunts as he had in the original series. He debuted in the episode The Eagle’s Nest which first aired on 22nd October 1976.
Gambit was played by Gareth Hunt and appeared in two series of The New Avengers. He also appeared in the New Avengers Annuals.
