Misty Kilgore

Origin

Born at Summer’s End in the far-distant future, Arriachnon was the daughter of King Melmoth of the Sheeda and his first wife. Following her father’s remarriage and deposition by his second wife, Gloriana, Arriachnon was the next target of the new Queen. She ordered Neh-Buh-Loh, the Celestial Huntsman, to kill Arriachnon. Moved by her beauty, he instead transported her to the present-day and forced her to weave a cobweb dress which stole her true memories. Lost in the present day, she assumed the identity of Misty Kilgore, a young suburban runaway seeking to develop her magic.

Creation

Misty was created by Grant Morrison and Ryan Sook. She made her first appearance in Seven Soldiers: Zatanna #1. She is drawn from a number of literary and mythological sources. Notably, her story parallels Snow White.

Major Story Arcs

Seven Soldiers of Victory

Misty attends a superhero support group which is also attended by Zatanna, and manages to convince the sorceress to take her on as an apprentice. She accompanies Zatanna on her errands, helping her to defeat the Gwydion and Tempter. Later, she joins Zatanna in visiting the massacre at Vincenzo Baldi’s house, where she recovers her memories of being princess of the Sheeda. She is sent with Vanguard to solicit the help of the winged horses living in a hidden city in the Himalayas, and returns with them just before the Sheeda invasion. During the invasion she plans to overthrow her stepmother, but is distressed at the idea that becoming the new Queen of the Sheeda will require her to continue the cycle of destruction that sustains her people. On her way to confront Gloriana she comes across Klarion, who has the other half of her magic die. Klarion sets Teekl on Misty, stealing the die for himself. She returns to Zatanna’s side for the culmination of the battle. Though Gloriana is defeated, Misty does not ascend to the throne of the Sheeda, as this is instead claimed by Klarion. Her actions after the failed harrowing are unknown.
