Creation and characterization
Mônica first appeared in a comic strip in 1963, her designer, Mauricio de Souza, was a reporter for the Brazilian newspaper Folha da Manhã, and had already created other characters that were regularly published, but none of them could reach the success of the toothy and easily irritable girl.
New Apparence?
Mônica has a new comic series now, it’s named “Turma da Mônica Jovem” (“Teen Mônica’s Gang” in a free translation). In this new series, Mônica and her friends are teenagers and the art is on a Manga style. Also, the stories are a little bit more mature.
