Nothing much is known about Mother of Pearl before she became the leader of the Pearl Sect.
Creation
Mother of Pearl is a character published by Marvel Comics created by Evan Skolnik and Patrick Zircher. She was seen in the pages of the comic The New Warriors as a minor villain.
History
Mother of Pearl is the leader of the Pearl Sect which were at one time loyal to the terrorist organization HYDRA. The Pearl Sect along with Mother of Pearl worked directly under the command of Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker. However once the organization became fragmented after his death and than the east coast branch was restructured by the criminal Silvermane under a more corporate and modern structure. Mother of Pearl left disgusted with the disrespect of Strucker’s vision of the organization and made a rift of her division and vowed to make this new sect worthy of Strucker’s once former glory.
Mother of Pearl and her group found a former half completed A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) storehouse which had been built underneath one of the Taylor Foundation’s abandoned factories. A.I.M. had been the tech division part of HYDRA until they left the organization to split off into their own terrorist arm’s manufacturing cartel. Finding the structure to her suiting, Mother of Pearl moved her group into the facility and began her subtle long term plans of world domination. She than had the sect build a mind-controlling device and direct it to New York’s Wall Street thereby causing economic upheaval not only in the United States but eventually a governmental collapse.
For years Mother of Pearl kept the Pearl Sect’s operations hidden from not only local’s but the super-hero community itself. However the teen known as Hindsight had taken it upon himself to locate a suitable site for the Warriors’ new home base and found the seemingly abandoned Taylor Foundation’s warehouse. The Warriors than began to set up shop in the warehouse, coming and going during many of their adventures and even some of the members taking up residence.
Mother of Pearl was at her wits end as she knew that the sect could not leave due to the close proximity to Wall street which made it a crucial location to roll out her plans. Remaining hidden in the lower levels of the warehouse and several years passed without the Warriors ever even suspecting that the sect was in their base. Although a few at the Taylor Foundation had already guessed what the warehouse had been intended for. Mother of Pearl than decided to develop a new plot while keeping surveillance on the Warriors and the current construction crew which had been repairing the Crash-Pad.
Mother of Pearl sends the Sect into high alert as Hindsight is tampering with the mechanism to open their sealed headquarters. This time it works, and his moment of delight is spoiled by a dozen HYDRA soldiers pointing large guns at him. The doors are resealed and Hindsight is tied to a chair, as Mother of Pearl explains about her organization, and their plans to cause mass havoc on the economy and then pick up the pieces of the United States afterwards. She is about to use the portable version of their mind-bender on him, but Hindsight gets the Sect arguing about the flaws and merits of HYDRA’s various Cold War world domination schemes, and uses it a distraction so he can cut through the ropes holding him down.
The Sect’s argument is interrupted when the Black Widow, Hercules, the Vision, and Turbo I show up; Mother of Pearl has them turn their mind-bender on the Avengers and Turbo, and then attacks the terrifically disoriented heroes. A Pearl Sect victory is imminent, when Hindsight smacks the agents operating the corruptor with a chair, causing it to swivel on Mother of Pearl. The Avengers and Turbo make short work of the suddenly apologetic Pearl Sect, and turn them over to the authorities
Mother of Pearl and the Pearl Sect are presumably still incarcerated, and the vast knowledge they have of the Warriors and their allies is still at their disposal.
Power and Abilities
Mother of Pearl has not been seen to have any powers. However she has displayed superior leadership skills, a high degree of intellect, and has at her disposal a large armament of weapons and divises which have been developed by A.I.M.
