Arjumand Banu Begum was born in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, in April 1593. Born into Persian nobility, in 1607 she was betrothed to Shah Jahan/Prince Khurram. They would wait 5 years before actually marrying, as they wished to wait to wed as to provide the best chance for prosperity, and this coincided as observed court astrologers. It was after there marriage when Arjumand received, was honored with the name of Mumtaz Mahal, which means “the most excellent of the palace” or “Chosen One of the Palace” as their bond and love was famed.  
 
The architecture masterpiece known as the Taj Mahal is inspired by her and honored to her.
