Mysto the famous “Magician Detective” became active in the 1950’s and is one of the standard bearers of an earlier age of heroism. Before starting his costumed career, Rick Carter worked as a “wildcat flier” in the Far East. While piloting his plane in Tibet, Carter drove off a party of bandits and earned the gratitude of their target, a shriveled old man. From this old man, Carter learned the secrets of illusion – not true magic – including the misdirection and sleight of hand employed by carnival entertainers. Returning to the U.S. accompanied by the old man’s servant, Sikhi, Carter became a magician under the stage name Mysto. After saving a citizen from a murder attempt, Carter turned to fighting crime.
