Nathaniel “Nat” Turner (October 2, 1800 â November 11, 1831)
He was born as a slave in America at a time where slaves were still legal. Known for being more of an intelligent man over being a strong man, he grew his mind by self-teaching himself to read and write. From books he would learn religion and solidify his faith in the Christian God. He would believe that he was sent for a special purpose to free his enslaved brothers and sisters.
Â
He came a great historical figure in American history when he lead a rebellion (Insurrection) in Virginia on August 21, 1831 that resulted in 56 deaths. Nat Turner would be later captured, jailed and executed. While in jail he would have is infamous Confession. When Executed he would be hung. As legend goes he did not struggle and just died motionless, which disturbed the audience who wanted him to fight like most executed do, instead Nat was peaceful. His death would leave a widow Cherry.

Nat Turner in comics
Comic superstar Kyle Baker would be so inspired by the story of Nat Turner that he would translate Nat Turner’s life into a mini-series that would not be published regularly as a study material for Black History. Kyle Baker’s story is well researched and historically accurate.Â
