The rest of their numbers include the powerhouse Thor, the flying warrior White Bird, the technology affiliated Technocrat, the computer enhanced Nightfighter and Citydweller who has an affinity and connection to cities, and Zeitgeist, the spirit of the century. The Protectorate exist to protect, when things need protection. They operate out of a subspace location known as the Foldcastle which grants them to be anywhere they need at a moments notice. Nate Xavier and The Protectorate’s home reality is Earth – 253. Nate Xavier and the rest of his team eventually come into conflict with a man known as Qabiri, and call on aid from X-Man, Nate Grey and his companion at the time Sister Perpetua.
Creation
Nate Xavier is a Marvel comics published character created by Steven Grant, Warren Ellis and Ariel Olivetti. Nate Xavier first appears in the X-Man series, specifically issue X-Man #71 – Fearful Symmetries Part 1. The Professor aka Nate Xavier is a member of the Protectorate, that team also created by Steven Grant, Warren Ellis and Ariel Olivetti. The Protectorate bare an uncanny resemblance to Wildstorm comics Authority team and book, with each member being a parallel of an Authority team character. Given that Warren Ellis created many of both and was involved in both teams creations, the parallels aren’t as unoriginal as one could accuse the characters of being. Nate Xavier specifically is an analogue/parallel to the Authority’s Doctor.
Character Evolution
Nate Xavier appears to not only be a nod to the Authority character the Doctor, but carries the names Nate and Xavier, giving the character connections to both Nate Grey, the character whose book Nate Xavier first appears and Professor Charles Xavier. Incidentally Nate Xavier is also a powerful telepathic character.
