Character History
Natty Bumppo is a white man who has no Indian blood in him but has lived so long with them he is caught between the two worlds, known by the whites as Hawkeye or the Deerslayer, the Indians call him La Longue Carabine, or The Long Rifle.
His two closest friends are Chingachgook and his son Uncas. They are the last two members of the Mohican tribe. Eventually his friend and blood brother Chingachgook becomes the last when his son Uncas dies.
