Nate River who was know as Near was the younger successor of L and was raised in Wammy House also known as Watari‘s orphanage for Gifted children in Winchester England in United Kingdom. His personality totally differs from L’s other successor named Mello. He is calm-headed and like L shows unique behaviors. He plays with toys which he bases his theories. He also shows idolism to L. Actually, he uses the Old English font of letter N to represent him The same thing that his idol used to represent himself with Old English font letter L. Like L, he is also mysterious and he is often misunderstood because of his unusual behavior. He also used L’s codename following some events.
5 years after L. Lawliet have died, Near was sent to United States of America to work for SPK (Special Provision for Kira). In that team, he was able to operate even without L’s presence. He was then able toinfer Light Yagami who pretends to be L. He then found out that Teru Mikami is Light’s proxy. Mello then abducted Kiyomi Takada. Near was able to switch the original Death Note from a fake one. Ryuk then killed Light. Near said that no one can ever replace L’s greatness. However, he and Mello were able to work together.
Near also attempts to get the Death Note following some events and became more mysterious.
