Nekhrun

Batman: Book of the Dead

In this Elseworlds story, the gods of ancient Egypt are shown to have lived on Earth 14 000 years ago, and were actually alien humanoid beings who had built the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza. As many of their kinds’ “lords” were themed on terran animals or otherwise, Nekhrun had chosen the bat for his theme. Originally an underling of the dark lord Set, Nekhrun changed his loyalties to that of the light, Isis and Osiris, and aided Isis in reviving the latter as he had been killed and dismembered by Set. Nekhrun also finished Osiris’s project in aiding the future generations of Earth by hiding possible means of salvation in a “Riddle of the Sphinx” below Giza, but at the cost of his life. The myths about these events were altered later on, replacing Nekhrun’s place with Osiris’s and Isis’s son Horus.

Nekhrun’s lost cartouche would later be found by Thomas and Martha Wayne, and when they died, passed on to their son Bruce who would become Batman. Aided by Sheila Ramsey, Batman managed to ultimately uncover the means of salvation below Giza, to save humanity from the impending polar shift.
