Nicknamed ‘Network Nina’ by those at SHIELD, Nina served as head of the ESPer Squad (at an apparently very early age) at some point prior to the late 1980s. At SHIELD she had cyber implants installed that greatly enhanced her powers. During this time its clear she shared a close relationship with Nick Fury. Its not surprising to imagine her exuberant and out-going style may have contributed to making her ill-suited to duty at SHIELD. Eventually Nina retired to run a nightclub in the Florida Keys, a change of pace that fit more with her nightly regiment of nightclubs and other assorted party life.
When Nick Fury was asked to help with the investigation in the Death’s Head organization, he asked Nina for help in finding their base. The favor came at the price of her nightclub, destroyed by the Death’s Head, whose base of operation she managed to find, learning of their alien origins.
Nina signed up again when SHIELD was reformed under a U.N. charter after the business with the Deaths Head assassinations. In the early months of the new SHIELD, while it was still just a small elite strike force, Nina served at the front lines of various missions. Among the villains she faced were Leviathan, the threat of the Lohan menace in space, and the rise of a new HYDRA, one under the Yellow Claw and a more permanent one lead by Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker.
Nina stayed on for a few years however she eventually decided to move on with her normal life and leave SHIELD. When previously thought dead agents of SHIELD were found to in cyro-storage afflicted with a strong brainwashing, Fury again sought out Nina for help. Nina was instrumental in breaking through Clay Quartermain‘s conditioning. While onboard the helicarrier, Nina found herself battling the traitorous Super Agent Psi-Borg and she was forced into a “scanner” war that ended her life.
