Neutron

Origin

Nothing is known about the history of Neutron, except that he is a member of the group The Imperial Guard. Though not hinted at previous stories, “ Uncanny X-Men” #479 (December, 2006) depicts him as several centuries old. A flashback to a centuries-old battle between the founding members of the Imperial Guard and a Phoenix host called Rook’shir was depicted. Gladiator, Magic, Mentor and Neutron are depicted among the founders.

Creation

Neutron was created by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum in 1977 and first appeared in X-Men # 107.

Much like many of his Imperial Guard peers, Neutron is loosely based on the DC Comics superhero from the 30th century Star Boy as were many of the other Imperial Guards fashioned after members of the Legion of Super-heroes.

Imperial Guard

The Imperial Guard is a legion of super powered champions who protect and defend the Shi’ar galactic empire.

Its members are drawn both from the Shi’ar and other alien races governed by the Shi’ar. The majority of the Imperial Guard’s members are known as Borderers. They assist the governors of conquered planets in enforcing the Shi’ar imperial law.

The Imperial Guardsmen however belong to the elite corps that protects the ruler of the empire, known as the Majestor or Majestrix, and executes his or her orders.

Many more battles did Neutron fought, including the time when Vulcan took over the throne of the Shi’ar Empire.

Realm of Kings and Death

During the events of the Realm of Kings, the Shi’ar where dragged into a war against the Cancerverse. It was there that the Imperial Guard battled agianst the enemies of the Empire. In this battle, Neutron was killed. He was later honored by the Shi’ar with a replacement. A new Neutron was recruited into the ranks of the Imperial Guard.

Powers & Abilities

Quasar/Neutron absorbs electromagnetic and kinetic energy into his body, allowing him to increase his physical strength. He can survive unaided in space, with no need of air, food or water. He can fly but whether this is a natural ability or the result of technology build into his suit has not been specified. He has been able to travel vast distances of space on his own.
