Nevada

Origin

Nevada’s inspiration originates in a Howard the Duck (#16, September 1977) story, in which a chorus girl (who works onstage with an ostrich) fights a “killer lamp shade.” Apparently instigated by Neil Gaiman, he asked creator Steve Gerber, in public on a CompuServe forum, when he was going to revisit the chorus-girl-and-her-ostrich story, and Gerber decided to take another look at the character.

Creation

Writer Steve Gerber and artists Phil Winslade, Steve Leialoha and Dick Giordano created Nevada in a limited Vertigo series of the same name (May 1998 – October 1998), and she had also appeared in Vertigo: WInter’s Edge #1 and 2 (January 1998 and 1999).
