Nils Pitcairn is the transporter chief on the U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike. Like Miles O’Brien from the U.S.S. Enterprise D he has a special love for his transporter room and could have made Chief Engineer but turned it down to stay in the transporter room.
Creation
The character of Pitcairn was a very minor character in the very first pilot episode of the original Star Trek. He was never referred to by his first name. Pitcairn was piked up to fill Pike’s crew in the series Star Trek: Early Voyages. The thing is he was never used. He only appears in photos on-board ship. He is hardly even referred too. The series ended abruptly so it is not known what was intended for the character.
