The son of Damon Morelle and Ashley Croix, widow of Kevin Trench, Nolan was born with a debilitating skin condition. Damon, desperate to save his son’s life, poured the majority of his biomedical fortune into various ventures to create a cure. The most promising option was Project: Sharkskin, a nanotech skin graft program. In order to fund the research, Damon took military contracts, creating cyborg superhumans like Nightwatch, and Salvo using prototypes of the graft.
By the time that Damon had created a version of Project: Sharkskin that could save Nolan, heroes like Nightwatch and Cardiac were hunting him down for his crimes. Damon took Nolan to a secure facility on the moon in order to undergo the treatment. However, Damon did not account for the chronal energy that the process generated, which was slowly building up to cataclysmic levels.
Shortly after Damon managed to apply Project: Sharkskin and stabilize Nolan, a future incarnation of Nolan, Warbringer, appeared. Warbringer was from a future timeline where the chronal cataclysms generated by Damon’s experiments had wiped out New York, including Nolan’s mother Ashley. Warbringer killed Damon and put and end to his experiments, before stabilizing the facility with the help of Damon’s enemy Nightwatch.
Nolan, cured of his condition, but now fatherless, was returned to his mother in New York, where Nightwatch continued to guard him from the shadows.
Some time later, Nolan began to demonstrate powers as a side effect of Project: Sharkskin. He was then declared a prize in the Great Game, and was attacked by Polestar and El Toro Negro. Nightwatch attempted to intervene on Nolan’s behaf, but was killed by the villains. Nolan was captured, but recued shortly afterward by Spider-Man.
Powers and Abilities
Since being bonded with the Project: Sharkskin nanotech, Nolan has demonstrated the ability to elastically reshape his limbs using nanotechnology. Because Warbringer is a matured version of Nolan, we can infer that he has at least the potential, if not the abilities, to fly, self-heal, and generate his own ranged weapons from his body.
