Ottar

Creation

Writer Simon Spurrier has revealed he got the idea of Ottar from the Hyndluljoo, the “Lay of Hyndla”, from the Poetic Edda. It chronicles the more racier parts of the myths and legends of the Norse religion. The hero of the tale, Ottar the Simple, pleads with Freya to help him learn about his ancestry, which she achieves by smuggling him into the lair of the giant seeress Hyndla. She does so by turning him into a Hildisvini, a battle pig. Ottar and Freya were said to be lovers.
