Originally called Cannonball Kid the strip appeared in Nutty from 1980-85. It was later reprinted in The Dandy under the name Owen Goal in 1998 and in December of that year new stories were drawn by Nigel Parkinson.

His name is a pun of the footballing phrase own goal and the English footballer, Michael Owen, who had rose to prominace during the year Owen Goal was first reprinted.
