Pansy Potter first appeared in Beano #21 ( 17 December, 1938). The early strips featuring her were drawn by Hugh McNeill. The 1940s strips were drawn by Basil Blackaller, Sam Fair, and James Clark. The 1950s strips were drawn by Charles Grigg and Gordon Bell. The 1980s and 1990s strips were drawn by Barry Glennard.
She supposedly inherited her powers from her father. Her strength is sufficient to bend steel and crumble concrete with minimal effort. However she often doesn’t realize what her strength can do to more fragile objects. Her original stories focused on domestic situations. During World War II she took to using her strength to fight Nazis. Following the War the concept of the strip was retooled. From 1949 to 1953, Pansy settled in Wonderland. It was a fantasy world with fairy tales characters running around.
From 1953 to 1958, Pansy was back in facing domestic situations. The back to basics approach didn’t particularly succeed and the strip was cancelled. From 1965 to 1975, Pansy received a new series in the pages of “Sparky”. She was also redesigned to give her a more modern look. She returned in the pages of “Beano” in 1989. Her series lasting to 1993. Since then the character is mostly a fond memory for older readers.
