Background
The first Paul Kirk had a series called Paul Kirk, Manhunter, published in Adventure Comics #58-72. He was a criminal investigator who assisted the police without the use of a costumed identity and had no connection to future costumed heroes who used the alias of Manhunter. The decision was made though to create a costumed hero named Manhunter beginning with Adventure Comics #73. This first Paul Kirk never has reappered beyond his golden age appearances.
This debut, written and penciled by Jack Kirby and inked by Joe Simon, revealed the masked Manhunter to be Rick Nelson but the costumed Manhunter’s true identity was later changed to Paul Kirk in Adventure Comics #74 for unknown reasons.
