Originally Joe Coyne had a business selling newspapers for a penny but he was fired for pilfering said pennies. He then went on to commit crimes centered around pennies. He was caught by Batman and sent to prison and ultimately sent to the electric chair. He was thought to have been erased from continuity since another story retconned the origin of the giant penny to Two-Face. But he returned again in Two-Face Year One , only to meet his end again.
